Welcome to Atomico Scientific

by Andy Mulle on Sep 07, 2026
Welcome to Atomico Scientific

Build the future in your garage.

Atomico Scientific started from a simple idea: some of the most interesting technology does not begin inside a giant corporation or a million-dollar laboratory.

Sometimes it begins on a workbench.

A radio case gets redesigned because the original mount is awkward. An ESP32 becomes part of an experiment because it is cheap, capable, and easy to modify. A Raspberry Pi cluster gets built because ten little computers doing something together is more interesting than one computer sitting alone. A strange prototype gets printed at midnight because there is only one way to find out whether the idea works.

That is the kind of work Atomico Scientific exists to support.

We build unusual tools, experimental hardware, mounting systems, electronics accessories, scientific kits, and products for people who would rather make something than wait for someone else to invent it.

What Atomico Makes

Atomico is deliberately broad.

We work around technologies that are useful, accessible, and interesting to experiment with, including:

  • ESP32 and Raspberry Pi hardware
  • Meshtastic and MeshCore radio systems
  • LoRa communications
  • distributed computing
  • scientific and laboratory hardware
  • 3D-printed mounting systems
  • electronics enclosures and fixtures
  • antennas and radio accessories
  • experimental instrumentation
  • small-scale manufacturing and prototyping

Some products begin as solutions to problems in our own projects.

If we need a better way to mount a mesh radio to a window, we design one.

If a ten-node ESP32 cluster needs a clean rack instead of a pile of boards and cables, we build one.

If a handheld radio needs a suction mount for temporary deployment, it becomes a product.

The goal is not to fill a catalog with generic parts. It is to make things that have an actual reason to exist.

From Prototype to Product

One of the principles behind Atomico is that experiments should leave something behind.

Sometimes that is data.

Sometimes it is a CAD file.

Sometimes it is a better understanding of a problem.

And sometimes the result is useful enough that someone else should be able to buy it.

That is how many Atomico products are created.

A prototype gets built for an internal project. It gets used. Something breaks. The design changes. It gets printed again. Eventually the object stops feeling like a prototype and starts feeling like a tool.

That is usually when it belongs here.

Mesh Radio Deployment Hardware

One of the first product families we are expanding is hardware for Meshtastic, MeshCore, and other LoRa mesh-radio systems.

Mesh radios are remarkably capable, but every deployment eventually runs into a very ordinary problem:

Where do you put the radio?

A good location might be a window, a pole, a vehicle, a shelf, a temporary field station, or the side of a structure. The electronics may be sophisticated, but the network still depends on physically placing the node somewhere useful.

We are developing a modular family of mounting options including:

  • vertical stands for flat-surface deployment
  • suction-cup mounts for windows and smooth surfaces
  • horizontal pole and rail mounts
  • adjustable pole-mounting systems
  • device-specific holders for handheld mesh radios

The idea is simple: make it easier to take a radio out of a box and actually deploy it.

BattleNodes Hardware

Atomico also manufactures physical hardware for BattleNodes, a distributed-compute gaming platform where real computers become competitive nodes.

That includes:

  • ESP32 node racks
  • Raspberry Pi Zero cluster racks
  • Commander display holders
  • multi-node deployment hardware
  • physical accessories for BattleNodes installations

BattleNodes is software and gameplay.

Atomico builds the things you can actually put on your desk.

It is a good example of how we want the company to operate: software creates a new use for hardware, and hardware makes the software more tangible.

Built in Small Batches

Atomico is not a giant factory.

That is intentional.

Many of our products are manufactured in small batches using digital fabrication, 3D printing, electronics assembly, and other small-scale production methods.

That means designs can evolve quickly.

A mounting system can be changed because someone discovers a better way to route a cable. A holder can be adapted to a new board. An experimental product can exist for a niche that would never justify mass-production tooling.

We think that is a feature, not a limitation.

Small manufacturing can go places mass manufacturing cannot.

For Makers, Experimenters, and Curious People

Atomico is for people who enjoy asking questions like:

Can this be built?

What happens if I connect these two things?

Can this radio work from here?

Can ten tiny computers behave like a system?

Can I measure this?

Can I make a better version myself?

You do not need a formal laboratory to experiment.

You need curiosity, some tools, and a willingness to try things that may not work the first time.

We know that because that is how most of our products begin.

What Comes Next

Over the coming months, this journal will document what is happening behind the scenes at Atomico Scientific.

Expect articles about:

  • new product development
  • mesh-network experiments
  • ESP32 and Raspberry Pi projects
  • BattleNodes hardware
  • manufacturing experiments
  • prototypes that worked
  • prototypes that absolutely did not work
  • test results
  • unusual hardware
  • and whatever we decide to build next

Some of those experiments will become products.

Some will become open projects.

Some may simply become interesting stories.

All of them will produce something useful.

Welcome to Atomico Scientific.

Build. Measure. Learn. Repeat.
